Obituary of Neville Gough

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Neville Frank Gough on Friday, November 11, 2022 at the age of 96. Neville was a life-long learner, always staying informed about developments in electronics, an interest which began as a teenager repairing radios in a shop in Birmingham, England, then receiving formal training in Birmingham and upon emigrating to Canada in 1957, continuing his education at Western Ontario Institute of Technology which merged with St. Clair College where he eventually taught for 31 years (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8fDiCokB9w). Neville worked at Moncur Electric for 43 years as head of the Electronics Service Department and became Shop Superintendent. Early in life Neville became interested in photography. Towards the end of WWII Neville enlisted in the British Army and after training found himself learning how to develop and print wall-size aerial reconnaissance photos. After the war he worked at General Electric in Birmingham where he met Eileen Hughes, a young Irish girl who would become his wife. But, before this union she was his assistant in a business venture Neville and a friend had started. They would hire a coach – a bus for our Canadian friends - and taking people to scenic spots where they would take photos of the people enjoying their day trip and sell them the memories. He also credits photography with helping him buy his first home in Canada. His short time in Canada and even shorter work history in Canada made banks reluctant to lend him the money until he met a bank manager who shared his love of photography and the deal was in the bag! In his later years Neville learned to play mah-jong, a game approached as enthusiastically as he did teaching and photography, becoming known for his strategic skills. And, he was always generous with his knowledge and enjoyed sharing experiences from his long life. Neville was pre-deceased by his wife Eileen and is survived by his children Philip, Peter, Jonathan and Sharon, eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. As per his wishes there will be no service and donations can be made to Life After Fifty Windsor West Side or the Windsor Jewish Community Centre in memory of Neville Gough.
