Obituary of Rev. Beverly Joyce Diet (nee McFarlane)

It is with deep sadness that the family of Rev. Beverly Joyce Diet (née McFarlane) announces her peaceful passing on June 7, 2026, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Beverly passed away at Aspen Lake Long-Term Care, just three days before her 81st birthday.

Beloved wife of Fred Diet for 60 wonderful years, Bev was a devoted and loving mother to Doug (Kelly) Diet and Cindy (Paul) Densmore. She was a proud grandmother to Lauren Diet, Michael (Alayna) Diet, Emma Diet, Madelyn Diet, and Molly Diet, and a cherished great-grandmother to Alyssa and Alexis. She will also be dearly missed by her sister, Sharon (Graham) Bell, and her brother, Brian McFarlane, along with many extended family members, friends, colleagues, and parishioners whose lives she touched through her ministry and compassion.

Bev dedicated her life to faith, service, and caring for others. She earned a Master's degree in Religious Studies from the University of Windsor and a Master's degree in Pastoral Ministry from Assumption University. She served as a pastoral minister at Our Lady of the Rosary Roman Catholic Parish before spending sixteen years commuting daily to St. Joseph's Hospital in Chatham, where she faithfully ministered as a chaplain.

In 2003, Bev was ordained to the priesthood in the Anglican Diocese of Huron. Throughout her ministry, she served as chaplain at Huron Lodge Long-Term Care, part-time priest and chaplain at St. Paul's Canterbury and Canterbury College, and incumbent at St. Luke in the Field, all within the Windsor community. She later became a part-time associate at All Saints' Anglican Church, Windsor, where she remained until her retirement. Bev was also recognized as a Certified Specialist in Pastoral Care and a Teaching Supervisor with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care, reflecting her lifelong commitment to supporting and mentoring others in their spiritual journeys.

Beyond her vocation, Bev found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. She treasured family vacations to New Hampshire, loved travelling to Scotland, Cornwall, and Belgium, and delighted in spending time with those she loved most. She enjoyed gardening, playing the piano, reading, shopping, and cheering on her beloved Montreal Canadiens. She also had a special fondness for Heavenly Hash ice cream.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Aspen Lake Long-Term Care in the Tecumseh neighbourhood for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity they provided to Bev throughout her time there. Their support and dedication brought comfort not only to Bev but also to those who loved her.

Bev's warmth, wisdom, faith, and unwavering dedication to others leave a lasting legacy. She will be remembered for her compassionate spirit, her gentle guidance, and the profound difference she made in the lives of so many.

A Celebration of Life will be held at All Saints Anglican Church in Windsor on August 20, 2026. Visitation at 10 AM followed by the service and interment at 11AM. A reception will follow after the internment.
