Obituary of Paul Douglas McLaughlin (Mooch)
Our brother and friend passed away at home on March 07 2026 after his many medical issues just got too much for him to continue on. He is now pain free and is at peace. Cremation has taken place.
He is predeceased by his partner Virginia Anne McEwan (2010), his parents Paul and Betty McLaughlin (2014) and sister Linda Schreiber (2021). He is survuved by siblings Nancy McLaughlin (Vancouver, BC), Barbara McLaughlin (Gary McMillan) (Belle River) and Stephen McLaughlin (Lasalle). He will be missed by his step grandchildren Zack and Emma Montague.
Doug lived in Sandwich Town most of his life where he made lifelong friends and enjoyed the casual atmosphere of the local businesses. He was a graduate of Prince of Wales public school and attended Forster Collegiate. As a member of the Forster Concert Band (The Globe Trotting Redcoats) he played the tuba. He often spoke of his trip to England with the band and cherished the memories.
He was an intelligent and adventurous man, taking on work as a junior forest ranger, a heavy equipment operator in the asbestos mines of Quebec, a deckhand on the Great Lakes / Ocean tugboats, and many other occupations. He was also an accomplished carpenter.
Later on in his life he returned to school and received his GED. He enrolled in the Mechatronics program at St. Clair College where he earned his degree. After graduating he secured employment at SMC Pneumatics and worked many years until his retirement.
During his retirement, he worked at perfecting the art of barbecuing his favourite meal, THE HAMBURGER. His efforts would have made Wimpy proud. His home was his castle where he was often heard muttering loudly to anyone within earshot, "GET OFF MY LAWN". Of course he never raised his voice at the Cats. LOL
Whenever the opportunity presented itself, Mooch loved to go fishing. AND SO...
"If someone should ask for me,
Tell 'em fishing is where I'll be.
I've finished all of my life's chores.
And now I fish on different shores"
"Don't worry - be glad - I've just gone fishing"
-Author David Ritter
He will be missed by people who truly knew him.
A party will be held in his honour in the near future for those who would like to attend.
